Odds are, in 2020 you have an Instagram account. Social media is a great way to keep up with family and friends. Why not use it to achieve your dreams, too? With just a little bit of work, you could sign with a modeling agency and get paid to model.
First things first, make sure your account is set to public. Put your location and email in your bio, so you can be easily contacted.
If you are really serious about getting scouted, I recommend making a completely new, separate account for your modeling endeavors. This way, you can still post your family vacations and pets on your personal, without them effecting your chances of getting scouted by an agency. (Sorry, Pickles, I promise you’re still a star in my eyes).
Now for the fun stuff: what to post! One of the biggest mistakes I made as an aspiring model was relying heavily on full glam makeup and extremely conceptual shoots. Agencies want to see who YOU are. Don’t be afraid to go makeup-free and show off your natural beauty. Show off your personality and what makes you unique. Something you consider an “imperfection” might be the one thing that sets you apart and books you the job!

Connect with local photographers and reach out to small businesses. Put together a styled shoot showcasing your posing skills and showing that you know how to highlight a product. If an agency can see you know your craft, they are likely to choose you over someone who will need a lot of training. Mix up your looks and show what genres of modeling you could be used for. Fashion, Editorial, Beauty, Bridal, Commercial, Fitness, Swim: the sky’s the limit! This is the method I used to get signed. Make sure you have current digitals clearly visible when someone comes across your page. I recommend putting them in a story highlight, so they stick to the top of your page, so people don’t have to scroll looking for them.
Now that your profile is ready to get you signed, let’s get you in front of some agencies! Below I’ve compiled a list of hashtags used by top agencies for scouting. Try to have at least 9 feed posts up before you start using these tags, so you will have plenty of work on your page for them to look through.
